In a safe embrace

Thanks to financial support from the EPH Foundation, we purchased weighted blankets for our recipients, which are a means of introducing deep touch therapy in our facility.
It is a new modern method that has proven effects on calming a person and providing a feeling of embrace and security. It stimulates the proprioceptive system (receptors in muscles, tendons, skin...), which directly communicates with the central nervous system of a person. If the proprioceptive system is weakened, the brain does not receive enough information about the current position of the body. Weakened proprioception is manifested, for example, by poor posture, heaviness, weakened awareness of the position of body parts (i.e. tripping and a tendency to accidents), but also by provoking conflicts or crossing the personal boundaries of other people.
A weighted blanket is a heavy blanket filled with a special material that creates a load and distributes it evenly over the entire body. Its weight simulates the feeling of being hugged, creating a therapeutic effect under which the body naturally relaxes. These blankets create the same effect in the body as a tight, firm hug, reinforcing a sense of safety, anchoring and security.
Thanks to the project, we purchased 3 types of blankets, which are color-coded according to the weight of the recipients. We cover the recipients with them according to their needs and health status, and their reactions are very positive. Most of them are able to relax so much that they fall asleep. Weighted blankets are a fantastic thing and we are very grateful to the EPH Foundation for their financial support.
